McAllen, Texas --- The McAllen Thunder announced Friday they have re-signed pitchers Frank James, Bryan Smith and invited Alex Fernandez to spring training.

Everyday regulars returning are Mike Goss (outfield) and Michael Lewis (infield).

James is returning to the Thunder for a second season and will also serve as Field Manager Al Gallagher’s Pitching Coach. Smith is a lefthander who was used exclusively in 2011 out of the bullpen. Fernandez spent the winter pitching in the Caribbean.

Helping Gallagher with the everyday lineup will be outfielder Mike Goss, who started his pro career in 2002. Goss has been playing in South Texas for the last four years in Coastal Bend and McAllen. He was the leading hitter on the Thunder last season hitting at a .343 clip with three homers and 36-runs batted in, while posting a .405 on base percentage.

Lewis is a returning middle infielder who will be appearing in his fifth season of professional baseball that started in 2008 in Shreveport of the American Association.

"We are in active pursuit of five or six other players at the present time, along with receiving two players from the Joliet Slammers in an off-season trade we made that sent Zach Mandelblatt to this Frontier League Club,” reported Gallagher.

The McAllen Thunder is a member of the North American Baseball League who will play their second season in 2012. Season ticket plans are on sale now, and available at the Thunder front office at Edinburg Baseball Stadium, or by calling (956) 380-6256.
